having the power of implying or suggesting something in addition to what is explicit.

Basically, something can have a negative or positive connotation depending on the word. Here's an example-

"The woman in the third world country was considered ignorant. (That sounds a bit rude, doesn't it? She doesn't have opportunity or any money available to her, that she could have inherited or earned to educate herself although she might want to. Therefore, she is uneducated, not so ignorant. The word "ignorant" implies the idea of lack of education, but in a ruder or more malicious way)." Therefore, "ignorant" has a negative connotation. "connotative" is just grammatically another form of the word.

P.S., I learned this from Sophomore English class. Sorry if I'm incorrect, or in this case.... uneducated! ;) At least you know what connotation means now. Good luck!
