Diastolic refers to the moment when the heart muscle is relaxed between contractions. Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure at that moment - the lower of the two blood pressure numbers. (e.g. if the blood pressure is 120/80, the diastolic pressure is 80.) it is the bottom number of a blood pressure reading. it measures the force of blood in the chambers of the heart: the atria and ventricles.
It is the measurement of the pressure of blood in the arteries when not flowing.
WHen the heart beats, the flow-pressure of blood against arterial walls is measured in mmHg (milimeters of Mercury).
Pressure at the heart beat (Systolic) is higher then pressure when resting (Diastolic)
The "resting" pressure measured AFTER the beat, hence the Diastolic pressure is ideally measured at about 60-80 mmHg, depending on age and health.
Anyone with an average range of pressure of around 115-120 Systolic OVER 65-80 Diastolic can rest easy in knowing his/her heart health is likely in good condition.
A range of 130 or higher in Systolic, and 85-90 in Diastolic, is considered "the borderline worry zone", and should be watched for changes.
EXAMPLES:
110-120 over 65-80 would be considered very good
125-130 over 75-85 is on the high end of normal.
130 + over 90+ is cause for concern and should be monitored over the long term to make sure there isn't an underlying cause.
The normal reading of a diastolic blood pressure is 60 to 80 mmHg
Diastolic
Systolic (the higher number) is a reading of the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart is beating at its maximum strength. Diastolic (the lower number) tells you what the pressure is in your blood vessels when your heart is at rest.
Pulse pressure is the difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings.
The upper reading is the systolic blood pressure while the lower reading is the diastolic blood pressure. Systole is the contraction of the heart while diastole is the relaxation of the heart.
They look at the diastolic (smaller number) when checking for high blood pressure.
This would be within the normal range for an adult diastolic resting blood pressure.
The larger of the two numbers in a blood pressure reading is the "systolic" reading. The lower number is the "diastolic." The systolic reading measures how hard the heart pumps when it contracts; whereas the diastolic reads the pressure when the heart relaxes.
Diastolic is associated with blood pressure. It's the measurement of pressure in the artery when your heart is at rest. Dystolic is a common misspelling.
Blood pressure reading: Systolic 124, diastolic 53, pulse 61 -- your opinion?
Diastolic Blood Pressure
The normal blood pressure is usually between 120-140 mm Hg (systolic) and 80 - 90 mm Hg (diastolic). Anything higher will be considered as high blood pressure
The systolic pressure is the upper number, while diastolic is the lower number. His diastolic pressure climbed to 120 in a blood pressure of 220/120.The woman's diastolic blood pressure fell with a large gap between the systolic and diastolic pressures.
