If you mean "doublet" as a linguistic term it means one of a pair of words, like shirt and skirt, sharp and scarp, ship and skiff, that derive from the same source by different routes of transmission. But if you mean "doublet" as an item of clothing in Elizabethan times then it was a man's tight fitting jacket with buttons all down the front, often with padded sleeves.
