Scientifically speaking....

rainbows are caused by refraction of light by water droplets (mist). This is why you can see rainbows after a rainfall or near a waterfall, because there is mist in the air. Now white light from the sun is a mixture of different wavelengths of light. When light hits something with a different index of refraction, it bends. The different wavelengths of light bend at slightly different angles. This causes a rainbow to appear!
