Earth does not orbit other planets; it orbits the sun. It's only coincidental that in the process it completely encircles Mercury and Venus.

The Earth is trapped by the sun's gravity therefore causing it to orbit the sun. Given the speed of the Earth it takes 364.5 days to make one complete orbit around the sun.

How does the planet move all the way round and not earth?

around what? if its earth then it would rotate on its axis and and if ur talkin bout the revolution then if it is before earth (Venus, Mercury) then it wouldn't orbit around earth they would only orbit the sun and Venus would orbit mercury. and all of the planets after earth (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, others) they would orbit the sun and all the planets before them. but all planets rotate on their axis but it may take shorter or longer time to rotate once than how long it takes for earth to rotate on its axis once.

Why do you think it took a long time for people to accept that earth and planets orbit the sun?

In addition to the above answer, in Europe the idea that the planets and revolved around Earth had become part of the religious doctrine thought by the Catholic Church. Most people do not easily give up their religious beliefs and the Church wielded great political power at the time.

How long does it take earth to make one orbit around the sun'?

It takes the earth one year (about 365 days) to orbit around the sun. This is the orbital period, and the general definition of a year; it can be said that the year of inner planets is shorter than ours, since they orbit more quickly, and planets further out in the solar system have longer years. This differs from the rotational period, or the "day", the time it takes the planet to spin on its axis, which for us on Earth is 24 hours.
