That's an easy one. Evil is any thought, word, or act that is harmful to others or God. This includes curse words and obscene gestures.

I think of evil as a purposeful act of harm to another. I do not think of a mistake by someone that causes harm to another as evil. I believe intent plays a central role in evil. Since the question was asked in the context of the "Christianity" section, I believe the ultimate evil is committed by Satan in preventing the lost from grasping and acting on the gospel of Christ. To me, nothing could be more evil than preventing people from understanding the one solution to eternal separation from God.
