Adjective:

(of a person) Difficult to deal with; contrary.

However, as far as what the scriptures were hoping to mean (and I would love to have had a book/chapter/verse of course), it tends to be anyone's guess, but it's a common custom/tradition/practice, to interpret the meaning of the words in such a way that best fits the desires of the reader. This way, they can feel as though the scriptures are speaking to them, and if they are "lucky" enough, can convince themselves that some sort of "Holy Spirit" is guiding them in the reading of the verses, which is still a matter of what a person's subconscious, or even conscious mind is expecting, or wanting it to mean.

I took the liberty of looking this term up on a Biblical "dictionary" site, and it's definition would most likely be what you are looking for. (See the related link)

The Biblical Dictionary's link defines "froward" as....

"Perverse; deceitful; false.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee aFROWARD mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. ( Proverbs 4:24-25 )"

I'm not sure if it is Proverbs that you have seen this term, but it's likely safe to go by that definition for now, at least until you can find some more clear/solid information. Hope that helps, have a good day.
