The mask is a sealed item, like Sasukes sword, Orochimarus sword, or Itachis' Sword/Shield.

It brings them to another dimension as seen in chapter 475.

I'm Assuming it's also how he uses his transportation technique to move so quickly.

I'm thinking it has nothing to do with the transportation jutsu...I may be wrong but take a good look at his sharingan eye...around it is a very old wrinkly skin that would not be cool to expose...he confessed that his body was too weak...I don't think it'll be a good site for the fans.

It is because when Madara had the fight with the first the first controlled the nine tails against Madara and crushed the right side of his face, he wears a mask to hide it. It is hinted that Madara is arrogant and probably doesn't want him to be seen as deformed or ugly.

Umm just curious can you back that up cause if that's true then TOBI is most likely to be Obito lol cause he was beneath a rock which crushed the right side of his face as well... Just Curious No hard feelings :)

It's just to make him seem mysterious to the reader. No, actually it's to cover his Sharingan!

I dont think they ever show his face but under the mask is another mask. I dont know why he covers it.
