High Definition Televisions can display High Definition video aswell as standard definition programs/DVDs...
...in order to view HD you need three things...
1 x HD Ready TV (at least 720x1280 resolution)
1 x HD Source (Blu-Ray / HD Broadcasts / HD Mediaplayers)
1 x HDMI Cable to connect the two (or Component if HDMI is not an option)
High Definition has two main levels of resolution, 720x1280 (720p) and 1080x1920 (1080i or 1080p) - the reason for three formats is for different broadcast limitations, where some HD broadcasters may only want to display 720p format as their bandwidth is limited, while 720p is still HD it is not as good as 1080p or 1080i which has twice the definition.
High definition refers to the quality of the picture, and plasma refers to the type of screen. All plasmas will be high definition, but not all high definition TVs will be plasma.
An OLED screen is typically used in televisions that use a high definition display. The OLED light is what gives the high definition televisions a clear high definition picture.
