In an impact-less print, the ink is placed on the page either because the ink electrically charged and accelerated through a voltage and lands on the page, or the ink is a ferrofluid (magnetic liquid) and is under a magnetic field that guides the little drops. That's why, when you look through a very old book, the pages were so much thicker than they are now a days in order to resist these strikes, this makes impact-less printing much more economic. Also the resolution is much higher.
