When applied, say, to a Christian church service, it means a service at which many denominations (Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Episcopalian, Methodist, Roman Catholic etc) attend. Although the service is Christian, it will be worded in such a way that all denominations present will feel at home. Do not get confused between an interdenominational service (where all present are Christian) and an inter-faith gathering (where there may well be the different religions of Christians, muslims, Jews, Buddhists and so on meeting together).
