The spark plug gap for the 5.0 L - V8 engine - in a 1999 Ford Explorer is ( .052 - .056 inch )
( 8 spark plugs ) for your 4.6 liter V8 engine in a 2002 Ford Explorer
For a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac : There are ( 6 spark plugs ) for your 4.0 liter V6 engine

Obviously- the spark plugs were not the issue :)
