My hamster had a fall and it's not moving but still breathing what does this mean?

Either they are cold and are trying to concerve energy, (which you should either put a heating pad under part of the cage to keep him/her warm,) or your hamster is about to die. I hope it's the former.

∙ 13y agoIts probably in shock, it might recover, but it might not, best to keep an eye on it. If this continues, consider bringing your hamster to the vet.

Actually, hamsters are pretty sturdy, and they can't tell 5 inches from 5 meters, this is why they always fall off cliffs or high tables. They usually recover after a few days or a week. Taking your hamster the the vet is the best solution. You hamster may have injured one of its bones permanently, making it harder to move. Make sure the cage isn't high up and this incident won't happen again.

Yes, they have very small bones and organs. A fall of a few feet for a hamster would be like a fall of a few stories for a person. One of my hamsters once fell 12x3 feet into a grass patch. It froze there for probably half an hour before we realized he fell and went down to search for him. After we found him lying motionless, we prodded him a bit and he squeaked and scuffled his limbs while still upside down, but other than that he was still fine.. However, we suspect there were some bone fractures as there was something weird in his movement, behavior and diet after that.
