In any case it would have a letter after the date, not a number. The letter is called the "series letter" and indicates which administration of the Treasury Secretary and/or Treasurer issued the bill. No letter indicates the first administration, "A" is the second, and so on.

Unlike coins, bills only change date when new cabinet officers are appointed or a new design is issued. The practice of starting with no letter and having A = #2, B = #3, etc. makes things even more confusing, but the government has been doing it that way for about a century.
