well i just got a hermt crab and it said on the sheet to let him bath in water so i did butt then all of a sudden his big claw turned purple dose any one know what you think might have happened
If your crab's large claw is purple, there is a good chance it is a c. clypeatus or often called "PP" for"Purple Pincher". These crabs are from the Caribbean and are thee most common variety sold at pet stores & on beaches in the US.
Nothing is wrong with your hermit crab. The purple shell just means that it is a different kind of crab
If a hermit crab loses its purple pincher, it is likely that this pincher will not grow back. There are a lot of things a crab can grow back, but pinchers is not one of them.
Hermit crabs usually , if not always, have one large claw and one smaller claw.
It means the hermie is healthy, mine has that too.
This is nothing bad usually hermit crabs change colors so if your hermit crab is ashy purple theres nothing to worry about it wont burn in flames
While a hermit crab will not die from losing a claw, I hope you don't mean you are going to purposely cut it off. It will regrow it's claw within a few molts.
No, but this means you have a Purple Pincher Hermmie. I have one too, his name is Taco<3. But, anyways, to tell if you're Hermmie is a boy or girl you will have to look closely when it is out of it's shell a bit. There will be a hole at the base of its back set of legs ( not sure what side.. ) If it were to be a female. If it doesn't have these holes you are an owner of a Purple Pincher Male Hermit Crab! Hope this helps.?
there are many species of hermit crab which one do you mean?the common hermit crabs species is bernhardus
Means the crab hides in his shell and doesn't play with the other crabs.
Do you mean the scientific name? Land hermit crabs fall under the genus Coenobita and the most common crab is the species Clypeatus.
It's most likely, stressed out. Don't worry though, the limbs will grow back again once it sheds!
they don't like each other and want to get away from each other.
Yes they can survive without their large claw, however I would isolate the crab for a day or so to make sure he does not drop anymore legs. He will regrow the claw the next time he molts. It might take a few molts to get it back up to size though.
If you mean will it kill the crab, no. However the hermit crab probably won't be able to use most toys. Depending on what it is.
