It is rarely possible to choose the subject of one's dream. Dreams are produced by the subconscious mind which usually is not responsive to the wishes of the conscious (waking) mind.

It is difficult to guess at any interpretation without further information. You might, indeed, be in mourning for your brother-in-law, and dreams of the dead are common when grieving. But a dream in which the deceased is happy and calm would mean that you have accepted his loss, while a fearful dream of an angry spirit or disturbing images would have a very different significance. ∙ 11y agoDreams are a natural part of the healing period and help to heal grief. Any additional significance depends on the emotional tone and content of the dream. A disturbing dream would indicate that the dreamer still has grief work to complete, and might need help processing feelings of guilt, anger or betrayal, which are very common after a suicide. A peaceful, loving dream would suggest that the dreamer is beginning to accept the reality of the brother's death and to realize that bonds of love and concern extend beyond the boundaries of this life.
