Best Answer

A sacred song is a "canticle."

Answer

This question assumes a lot. Sacred refers to something which is set apart as consecrated or holy, devoted to a higher power or ideal. Scripture is just a fancier way of saying "writings." With this in mind, there are sacred scriptures devoid of a specific God or pantheon of gods.

The Word of God, that is, the sayings of God, would surely fit the bill of "sacred." If they were then written down they would become "scripture."

Ultimately, we enter debates when we discuss whether The Bible is the word of God or the words of men who believed they had a handle on what God wanted to say.

It often boils down to, "These are writings we hold as sacred. This is because they reveal the will of divibity. Thus to follow them is to follow our God. To deny the words is to deny God." Bingo. Built-in devotion and penalties for not following them.

Answer 1 (Islamic Perspective)Per Qur'an saying, yes the Bible is the word of God revealed to Jesus (peace be upon him). Qur'an says (Meaning English Translation):

" In their (Jews) footsteps, We (Allah or God) sent Jesus son of Mary, fulfilling the Torah that preceded him; and We gave him the Gospel (The Bible), wherein is guidance and light, and confirming the Torah that preceded him, and guidance and counsel for the righteous. So let the people of the Gospel (Christians) rule according to what God revealed in it. Those who do not rule according to what God revealed are the sinners." (5:46-47)

Answer 2Yes. The Bible exists as the word of God as heard and recorded by the various prophets of the Bible.

Though appearing as a simple question this is, however, probably one of the most important questions in a human's lifetime. Consider for a moment, that if the Bible is indeed the word of God, then all other man-made ideas concerning 'life' - evolution, philosophy, psycology, Astrology, etals - become meaningless. Most importantly though, is the fact that if the Bible is the word of God and we fail to follow its instructions, obeying its Laws/Commands, and trust in its every word, we will surely place ourself in the path of eternal consequences. So, IMHO, it behooves each and every one of us to prove the veracity of this question personally or face their ignoring God Himself. It is an indivual's choice.

More to the direct point of the question then, there are various internal and external proofs that the Bible is actually God revealing Himself to His desired future family (see 2 Corinthians 6:18). One of the internal parts (in the pages of the Bible itself where it declares its authority and divine origin), consider that this book was written over 1500 years by some 40 different writers, spanning 3 continents, in 3 languages with 66 (count varies) documents (scrolls books/letters). Even with all this diversity, there is complete unity, a cohesiveness in the book itself. Sure there are some apparent inconsistencies on the surface, yet each of these have been answered over the centuries satisfactorily. It is quite miraculous IMHO, to have such a large and diverse writing work together is such perfection. Its central message of salvation for mankind via the Love of God is present from Genesis to Revelation. Isaiah told us who this great creative being was in Isaiah 40:28, who is the sole authority over it (Isaiah 43:15). It is the path of man to desire to be part of Him someday (1 John 2:5).

On the external side, the historicity of the Scripture has been proven time and again via archaelogy and secular historic writings. Suggest delving into these to prove it for yourself. Futhermore, considering all who over the centuries desired to destroy this book - from Roman Emperor Diocletian, communist and facsist dictators, to modern-day atheist/agnostics, it is a miracle that it has survived. Surely this 'indestructiblity' of the Bible is a testament to protection of God to insure His word is available for all manking throughout the ages.

In conclusion then, though skeptics and opponents have continually cast aspersions towards the Bible, and has been under attack by pseudo-science, psychology, and political movements, the Bible continues to remain just as true and relevant today as it was when first written. The Bible has transformed countless lives and cultures throughout the last 2000 years (another external evidence). The accuracy of the Scripture, which has been preserved despite every attempt to corrupt, attack, or destroy it is clear testimony to the fact that the Bible is truly God's Word and is supernaturally protected by Him - regardles of who or how the Bible is attacked, it always comes out unchanged and unscathed. Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away" (see Mark 13:31). If you truly and unbiasedly look at the evidence, you can say without a reservation that, yes, indeed the Bible is truly 'the word of God.

Answer 3: It most probably is not. While a person may choose to believe that the Bible is the word of God, such belief is not actually demonstrable.

Christians, Jews (to a degree), the individuals of numerous minor religions, and the Bible itself all claim that the Bible is the Word of God. However, the claim that the Bible has Divine origins is at best questionable. It is impossible to prove that the Bible is not a Divine Holy Book simply because it is impossible to prove a negative in an absolute sense. For example, it is impossible to absolutely prove that there is no teapot in the Asteroid Belt, because our telescopes can't see something that small. There is no disagreement between Biblical Apologists and Critics that the Bible was physically written on Earth by humans (as opposed to falling out of the sky as a fully written book). What splits the Biblical Apologists from the Critics is the claim that humans wrote the Bible with Divine Assistance and this is a positive claim, an assertion of information. Some Christians understand rightly that they have to justify this belief. Therefore, if all of their positive arguments can be dispelled, then the Bible returns, by default to human authorship without provable Divine Assistance, even if we assume a divinity capable and interested in providing Divine Revelation. Furthermore with increasing knowledge about how the Bible was assembled, we could affirmatively prove that, at a minimum, men designed the Bible that we have today by organizing the canon.

Scripture was inspired by the Holy Spirit. This does not mean that God literally took a pen and wrote the words onto a piece of paper, but he did inspire the godly men who penned it.

Another viewpoint:

It took 1,610 years to write the Bible, from the year 1513 before Christ to the year 98 after Christ. About 40 different men wrote the Bible. Some were prophets, and the Bible says they were "borne along by holy spirit." Read 2 Peter 1:20, 21. The expression "borne along" comes from a Greek word, and in this verse it means to be moved, to be carried, or to let yourself be moved. Acts 27:15 uses the same word to describe a boat that was moved or pushed in a certain direction by the wind. When we read that prophets and Bible writers were "borne along by holy spirit," it means that God communicated with them, influenced them, and guided them by his active force, or holy spirit. So they wrote, not their own thoughts, but God's thoughts. Sometimes these prophets and writers did not even understand what they prophesied or what they wrote. Daniel 12: 8, 9. So it is true that "all Scripture is inspired of God." We do not find the opinions of humans in the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16

A:

The Bible is traditionally regarded as having been in some way inspired by God. Some believe that it is inerrant because they say God actually dictated the very words in the Bible.

Different people have different ways of understanding the meaning of "word of God". Some say that every author wrote down exactly what God inspired him to write, meaning that the Bible is wholly inerrant and true in all details - the 'word of God'. Others say that what the authors wrote was from their own knowledge of events, but because they were inspired by God, the books are spiritually correct and should be regarded as the the word of God, even if there may be minor errors of history in them. In the end, it comes down to faith, and faith alone.

The best answer I think for that is at 2 Timothy 3:16,17. There it says that, "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."

Here it not only tells us the scripture is God's word but it's intended use and the benefit of using it. I hope this helps.

(Note: I used a modern English translation for ease but all translations say the same thing here.)

That means that the scripture is the INSPIRED word of God, not that God spoke every word of the scripture.

It depends on what your religion is. Jews and Christians count the Hebrew Bible as sacred. Christians also count the New Testament as sacred. Muslims recognize both of those as perhaps flawed sacred texts but give their greatest respect to the Koran. Sikhs ignore those western texts and put their trust in the Guru Granth Sahib, a book of the teachings of the Gurus. Hindus consider the Bhagavad Gita sacred, but there are many other ancient texts that Hindus consider sacred to varying extents. There are also Buddhist sacred texts.
