atypia is abnormalities in cells found within a mole. the term atypia when referring to skin is catagorized into 3 stages.Mild, Moderate, and severe.when a mole is considered to be severely atypical it is the last stage OS atypia and may continue or progress into skin cancer (melanoma) if left untreated.Usually a severely atypical mole should and will be reccomended by the dermatologist to be excised before it has the chance of turning into melanoma.

A test result of atypical nevomelanocytic lesions does not necessarily mean melanoma. These types of cells can eventually turn to melanoma if left untreated.
''Sévère'' in French would mean ''Severe'' or ''Harsh'' in English.
Depending on where it was found, it only means that there some cell that does not look normal and that this needs to be investigated further. However, it does not mean that you are diagnosed with cancer. Until confirmed by pathology department, it is not cancer.
