The expression "sadder but wiser" says the same thing as this dream. For example, children are very happy believing in Santa Claus. As they grow up and realize that Santa Claus is make-believe, some children feel quite sad. That bit of wisdom was painful to learn. So your dream represents wisdom or knowledge that may be painful when you learn the truth.
