I think you mean kudos. Kudos is short for congratulations
You performed above and beyond what was expected of you. Congratulations.
When a teacher you know says hi to you it means they are being polite and acknowledging you.

When someone says congratulations to you, or when someone congratulates you, say, "Thank you".
