It means that they are trying to manipulate you with the attention and gifts in order to gain your trust so they can use and abuse you but your return gifts are telling them that you think that you are equal to them. And NOBODY, but NOBODY is equal to them and certainly NOT YOU! If they are a true narcissist with NPD - They are milder forms of psychopaths i.e. abusers, predators with no empathy and very little or no remorse and it is probably making them extremely angry that you think that you are equal and revenge will be soon. You need to keep far, far away from them.
