This is the displacement, or size of the engine. An engine has cylinders in which your pistons move up and down in. To calculate the engine size, you figure out the area of your piston face and multiply this by the stroke (up and down motion of your piston) and finally by the number of cylinders. The size of engines used to be measured in cubic inches. There are 61 cubic inches to a litre.
