When you sleep do you think that you remain impassive until awakening? No, you leave your physical body and can travel. If you have a strong bond or unfinished business, as in saying goodbye for example, it is not uncommon to meet that person. Upon awakening your brain, with it's limited sensual input, interprets that contact as a dream. This has been validated my thousands of documented Out Of Body Experiences (OOBE).
