Most people lose things because they get distracted. For example, a mom towing three kids to the grocery store forgets her purse at home and has to go back to get it. Our lives get so busy and there's so much stress sometimes that it takes a toll on short-term memory. If this is the case for you, too, you can help yourself by following a few tips:

  • Always put your keys in the same place, at home or when you are out. For example, when home, on the right side of the table nearest the door; if out, always in the same pocket or spot in a purse (if female).
  • Get organized beforehand and put everything you need to take with you beside the front door.
  • Write a list and follow it.
  • Limit yourself-- don't take on extra activities that lead to more stress.

If you are middle age or older, know that many people get "fuzzy brain" symptoms. It's normal and mostly relates to being busy or stressed.

If you are getting nearer to 60, or have other symptoms, get a check-up for memory-related problems. There are many medications that can slow Alzheimer's and Dementia symptoms, and more likely your memory is also poorer simply because of the busy lives we all lead.
