It means that maybe you just weren't ment to be together. Or it may mean you were in love at one point but have started to grow apart. By trying to save something that's already in the past may be to stressful for both of you. I think trying to have a friendship with this person whom ever he/she is may be the best way to go about things. Well at least for now. Who knows maybe being friends with this person could lead up the path to being more then that in the future.
