Karma is a universal law. The word karma means action. The law of action that governs this universe determines the reaction to our action. If you plant apples, you will get apples. You will never see mangoes growing on an apple tree. The law of Karma will not permit it. The law is based on the principle - as you sow, so shall you reap. It is like a boomerang, what goes around comes around, what you give is what you get, what you do will come back to you. Therefore, what does the law of Karma determine? It determines our destiny. Our actions of today, every action of today is a seed that we are planting. We have free will, we can choose our deeds but they become the seeds of our destiny. Therefore, it is our karma that determines our destiny. Just as our life today is a result of our past karmas.
