Mellitus is Latin for "Honey-Sweet" or "Sweet like Honey",(both appear in online defiinitions of Mellitus). This is believed to have been because ancient diagnosis of diabeties was done by the persons urine having a very sweet taste to it. (There is no mention as to who or how it was tested to find this out).
