The "hardness" of the "lead" (graphite/clay mixture) is often written on the pencil.
For harder leads (they write lighter and do not need sharpening so often) the numbers will increase and be followed by the letter H
softer leads write darker and need to be sharpened often to maintain a point the numbers will increase and are followed by the letter B
The range is between 9H (hardest) to 9B softest.
HB is in the middle.
The 2 is the number of the lead in the pencil.
2
The # is reference to the hardness of lead A number 2 pencil is averagely hard aka HB
Usually on most pencils it says it on the case or on the side of the pencil by the eraser it says PENCIL #2 or #2.Hope i helped!:)
Theoretically, the a number 2 pencil can write an infinite number of words. The number 2 in the number 2 pencil actually indicates how hard the graphite is. For more information, visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pencil_hardness#Grading_and_classification
The "number 2" designation refers to the "hardness" of the lead. The higher the number, the "harder" The "7mm" designation refers to the "thickness" of the lead. The higher the number, the thicker. They are not the same pencil.
Yes!!!
It has to do with the kind of graphite or material used as the lead for the pencil.
I needed a number 2 pencil. Stella penciled the appointment into her datebook. The pencil was chewed on. I lost my only pencil.
A 2 soft pencil refers to the hardness level of the pencil lead. A 2 soft pencil will have a softer lead that is darker and smoother to write with compared to harder pencils. The number 2 is typically used in the United States to indicate medium softness, while in other countries, the same pencil may be labeled as HB.
a number two pencil is made of wood with graphite in the center of it
