Para has several other uses/meanings like below:

For: Quiero eso para mi abuelo. - I want this for my grandfather.

In Order To: Para estudiar bien tienes que sacar buenos apuntes - In order to study well, you need to take good notes.

By (a certain time): Hay que hacer la tarea para lunes. - The homework must be done by Monday.

(Not to be confused with parar or pare commonly seen on stop signs in spanish speaking countries, pronounced as para, having the same meaning as alto english translation stop.)
