In order to understand proverbs chapter 1 verse 17 you need to read a couple versus before it and a couple after it. The passage is warning us not to get mixed up with people are purposely hurting others. Verse 17 in the message bible says "No one robs a bank with everyone looking". Verse 19 says "When you grab all you can get, that's what happens: the more you get, the less you are." So the passage is basically saying that if you join men or women who are sinning you are taking away your pureness and setting yourself up for the consequences that they will have face.

Who is the author of proverbs?

The Hebrew Bible describes the author of Proverbs as 'Solomon, the Son of David, King of Israel.' 1:1 However as Chapter 31 shows they may not all have been written by Solomon. Some Proverbs are ascribed to 'the Sayings of the wise' as mentioned in Proverbs 22:17; 24:23. Chapter 30 is attributed to Agur, Son of Jakeh. Solomon wrote more than three thousand Proverbs but only a small portion of these have been preserved by God. 1 Kings 4:32 Of the work attributed to Solomon, a sufficient amount is Solomon's to speak of Proverbs as being written by him.

What does the Christian Bible have to say regarding prescription pain medications?

In the book of Matthew chapter 9 verse 12 you can read "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick." This is also recorded in Mark chapter 2 verse 17 and also in Luke chapter 5 verse 31. In the book of Colossians chapter 4 verse 14 you can read of Luke being the beloved physician. With these passages you can see that the authority is given to see a doctor when physicaly sick. Now through the care of the doctor he or she may prescribe or give you some type of medication for your treatment. In the book of Proverbs chapter 31 and verse 6 you can read "Give strong drink to him that is perishing." In this verse we can see that the drink is used as a medication. In old times pills were not used as they are today.
