Revival, when used as an historical term, means the popular use of older art forms/architecture/manners in a current society.
A good example of this is the term Gothic Revival. Gothic architecture of the medieval period was imitated by the 18th century architects and the atmosphere and mood of the Gothic period were reflected in the writing styles of some of the writers as well.
Someone has contributed an excellent write up here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_revival. This will give you a much more literate description of the use of the term than I can supply in this small place.
Another prime example of Revival is Greek Revival - seen clearly in the architecture of the 18th and early 19th centuries. This was the imitation of Ancient Greek architecture and led to some of the world's most notable buildings such as the National Gallery and British Museum in the UK and Capitol Hill in the US. Examples abound in many other countries.
