Possibly the deceased was a scientist or science teacher. It is interesting in our culture, there is no pictorial or icon symbol for Science, though some have suggested the Rutherford-Bohr atom symbol be used- but this would be limited to atomic science, don"t you think. I am not aware of any case where the word ( Science) was used as , in effect an epitaph, though it is possible.
