Smoking near ANY computer will coat the internal hardware (and outside) with the same tar and nicotine that goes into your lungs. You would have to be a heavy smoker in a small room to really do any major damage though. Ask any computer repair shop and they can usually tell within a few minutes of opening it if you are a smoker. The dust can actually stick to the hardware enough that even if you blow it out it will still leave a fair amount behind.
Smoking near an Apple computer may void the warranty on some makes, but not all.
Read your warranty. It may clearly state that if you smoke while using the Apple computer, your warranty is void. Only some makes of Apple computers have this in their warranty, not all of them.

I have read the Apple Warranty and nowhere in the warranty does it say that smoking near an Apple computer voids the warranty. All it will do is turn your computer yellow over time. If you clean the computer regularly it will do no real harm. Read the warranty for yourself and see if you find any mention of smoking around an Apple computer.http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/embedded-mac-warranty-us.html
