The rights of Americans.
The US Bill of Rights was created to protect U.S. citizen's individual liberties.
When the Constitution was proposed, there were no provisions in it for protecting the rights of the citizens. When supporters of the Constitution agreed to the addition of the Bill of Rights to the document, most opposition ended.
The bill of rights doesn't allow the constitution to survive, but the ability to make changes or amendments to the constitution allows it to grow and change with time.
