"Mortal" in the ancient Hebrew means "flesh". Christians are to put their "trust" in God alone, and not mere man. Psalm 146:3-5 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.

Psalm 146:3-5

3 Do not put your trust in princes,

in human beings, who cannot save.

4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;

on that very day their plans come to nothing.

5 Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the LORD their God.

Psalm 118:8 "It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man."

Psalm 146:3 "Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation."

Basically says Don't do it.

Compared to what it says of trusting God:

2 Chronicles 14:11 "Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You."

Psalm 40:4 "How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood."

Psalm 56:4 "In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?"

Psalm 56:11 "In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

ADDITIONALLY:

In matters of spiritual importance, together with the Scriptures quoted above; Jesus is the example in this matter to all who "trust in Him":

"...many believed in His Name, when they saw the miracles He did. But JESUS DID NOT COMMIT HIMSELF TO THEM, because HE KNEW ALL MEN, and needed not that any should testify of man: for HE KNEW WHAT WAS IN MAN." (John 2:23-25 KJV)

Same verses [NLT New Living Translation]: "Because of the miraculous signs He did... many people were convinced that He was indeed the Messiah. But JESUS DIDN'T TRUST THEM, because He knew what people were really like. No one needed to tell Him about human nature."
