The flag of Fiji has a light blue base with a British Union flag in the upper left corner which extends to half the length of the flag. This light blue base represents the Pacific Ocean and the Union Jack represents the country's links to Britain. In the center of the right side of the Fiji flag is the country's coat of arms, with three sugar canes, a coconut palm, a dove with an olive branch which represents peace, and a bunch of bananas, with a lion holding a peeled coconut. The golden lion represents Britain, as does the red cross of St. George of England. Two of the symbols represent Fiji's colonial past.
