We wear a white gown or garment because baptism is like the rebirth of a person and white represents purity of the soul.
In some churches it is traditional, if the garment is saved until death, to be buried wearing the baptismal gown (where obviously this may not always be practical). This practice serves as a reminder and a comfort to loved ones and friends that the departed one is a Christian and is now completing the journey which began at baptism in hope of the resurrection to come.
The white baptismal gown is a sign of the purity of the soul after original sin is taken away through baptism.
Literally? No. Figuratively? It's a ritual to symbolize such.
baptism
Baptism is often represented by a scallop shell
It symbolizes goodness, and the start of a new life.
It symbolize the cleanliness of the soul or pure.
Water is used in baptism to symbolize the cleansing from sin given by the free grace of God.
The scallop shell can represent the sacrament of Baptism or it can also represent St. James the Greater.
Baptism is a Christian tradition and the baptism candle has a long history. Light is an important symbol within Christianity and the baptism candle represents the movement from death to life in Christ, who is also known as the 'light of the world." Baptism is the way in which the Church welcomes a child into the community of faith.
No gifts are given by the priest or any membr of the church. The church is there only to symbolize that there is still religion in the world.

The color of Baptism is white, which is used to symbolize Faith, Hope, Purity and New Life. When preforming a baptism a priest wears a white stole and the infant or catechumen is often dressed in white, or is ceremoniously presented with a white garment, and given a white candle.
The Paschal Mystery symbolizes Baptism because as Christ died and was risen up in glorified form, we are too. When we are Baptized we are cleansed of all sin (personal and Original) and therefore are a 'clean and spotless' until we sin again.
