One of the most significant New Testament teachings on the subject is that if a man can't "control" his own family, he lacks a quality that is necessary to be a leader of Christ's church.

1 Timothy 3:5 - for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?[NKJV]

No one is an infidel in The Bible-you love all and do what you can, family or not is irrelevant.

Answer:

"...if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.

"But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.

"Give the people these instructions, too, so that no one may be open to blame. If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever [KJV: infidel]" (I Tim.5:4-8 NIV)

I think you are thinking of the account in 1 Timothy where specifications are given for men who are seeking oversight in the Christian congregation.

(1 Timothy 3:1-7) 3 This statement is trustworthy: If a man is reaching out to be an overseer, he is desirous of a fine work. 2 The overseer should therefore be irreprehensible, a husband of one wife, moderate in habits, sound in mind, orderly, hospitable, qualified to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent, but reasonable, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money, 4 a man presiding over his own household in a fine manner, having his children in subjection with all seriousness 5 (for if any man does not know how to preside over his own household, how will he care for the congregation of God?), 6 not a newly converted man, for fear that he might get puffed up with pride and fall into the judgment passed on the Devil. 7 Moreover, he should also have a fine testimony from outsiders so that he does not fall into reproach and a snare of the Devil.

The conclusion was that if a man did not preside over his family, he was not really qualified to take on extra responsibilities or given authority over matters of the congregation.

It was a testimony to his ability to handle responsibility.

This has never been an issue in the Bible concerning bride price as far as I can remember. In the Bible, when a man wants to marry, he simply takes a wife; and I cannot think of an instant of payment for her.

What happens when a married man dies without a will in Oregon?

In Oregon, when a married man dies without a will, his estate will typically pass to his surviving spouse according to state intestacy laws. If there are no children involved, the spouse will likely inherit everything; if there are children, the spouse and children may share the estate. It's recommended to consult with a probate attorney for guidance on navigating the legal process.

What does the Bible say about family?

This is a core message of the Bible. The 'family' unit teaches mankind roles in the Government of God - the God Family. From Genesis to Revelation we learn of God the Father, the Son, the Bride of Christ, and future sons and daughters in it. A quick glance at the history of man and ruling nations will show how quickly they 'disintegrate' with the weakening of the family unit values.
