The same thing it does on any other marque.
yes
Under the vehicle near the rear mounted to the frame rail
It is on top of the charcoal cannister in the engine bay.
Chances are you have contaminated the charcoal cannister by overfilling fuel tank. New cannister, I am told is about $180. Pull gas nozzle part way out of filler neck and fill slowly. This might work.
The charcoal canister or vapor canister is underneath the car, just ahead of the gas tank and just behind the rear suspension. Looks like a large rectangular box with several rubber hoses running from it.
it could be a short or anti-pollution devices filters etc. check the vacuum on the charcoal cannister. 65;
the power steering fluid is in the cannister to the right of the oil filter and to the left of the air filter housing
It is that black can looking thing on the left front of the engine comparrment. It has vacuum and eletrical lines.
Could be a vacuum leak. I'm not too familiar with that engine, but check all the air hoses, the PCV system, EGR and all that.... Also, change the charcoal cannister.
What you are smelling are the hyrdocarbons, which are the more damaging portions of gasoline to the environment. It may be a leak in the evaporative system, but being that you smell in in the rear of the car, it's probably the Charcoal Evap Cannister, or the hose leading to it. The cannister is responsible for filtering out hydrocarbons from evaporating gas before it hits the air. If it's dead or not working this would be the fumes you'd smell. The cannister about the size of a golf ball and is typically hanging at the top of the rear passenger fender well.
If it is like my 2001 Nissan Sentra, there is a cover behind the drivers side tire. It bolts on in the front and 2 quills click into the charcoal cannister. The cover comes off and the white plastic piece is the vacuum cut valve bypass valve. Nissan price $140.00-Wilton Nissan. I also did as recommended, and replaced the valve on the cannister, and the solenoid -the bolt on the canister broke as is evidently common. Replace cannister. Whole job (I did the labor) about $600.00
This is pretty easy. Just disconnect everything connected to the tank and remove it. You also might consider changing the charcoal cannister right below it. It will help with the car's performance.
