Actually the Elephant is just used to imply "of the east" just like a horse (of the south), a bull (of the west), and a lion (of the north) are used. There is nothing more to it.
The national emblem of India is the Ashoka Chakra. There are four animals on the national emblem of India.1. Lion on the north;2. Elephant on the East;3. Horse on the south; &4. Bull on the West.
Yes, there is an elephant. But, it is not the main creature. The emblem mainly consists of three Lion heads. Below the three lions, on a circular platform-like base, four small animals- elephant, horse, bull and lion are engraved and are separated by 4 wheels known as Dharma Chakras. The Elephant is to signify the East, bull- West, horse-South and Lion- North.
The horse represents speed and the bull represents power
That is India. India's national emblem has 4 lions. All facing in opposite directions. It has been obtained from The Ashoka Pillar.
Elephant is the national heritage animal of India.
