It means something that you have to get used to before you start to enjoy it. Often it's because of the unusual aspect of the food or drink, like a strong taste, or odor. Some examples of these foods arealcoholicbeverage, malt bread, bitter teas, saltylicorice, etc. Most often people say alcohol has an acquired taste- it tastes and smells horrible at first, but becomes enjoyable after being exposed to it.
An "acquired taste" is usually a strong-flavored or somehow bizarre food or drink that children or animals would normally shrink from, but that adults learn to enjoy, or at least get used to. Tobacco is an excellent example. To say "I'm an acquired taste" means "People normally don't like me at first."
