The Graduate Management Admissions Test or GMAT is a standardized test that is used to measure the aptitude to succeed in business school at the graduate level. Most business graduate schools require that applicants submit their GMAT score in order to be considered for admission into any of their business programs. The GMAT is a computerized exam that takes an average of four hour to complete. It tests students in both mathematics and english and measures their verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills. The maximum score than can be achieve on the GMAT is 800. The mean score however is a 542. Those who are preparing to take the GMAT typically are curious about what GMAT questions will appear on the exam. Even though every exam contains different questions, students can prepare for the GMAT by learning the format of the exam and what types of information that they are expected to know. The GMAT contains 41 questions on the verbal section, including critical reading, sentence correction and reading comprehension. These questions must be answered within 75 minutes and students can score a maximum of 60 points. In addition, the mathematical portion of the GMAT consists of 37 multiple choice questions with a time limit of 75 minutes. The mathematical GMAT questions include problem solving and data sufficiency. Students can also score a maximum of 60 points on this section. Lastly, the analytical writing portion of the GMAT consists of two essay questions. In one essay, the student must analyze an argument and in the second, he or she must analyze a particular issue. Students receive 30 minutes to complete each essay and they are individually scored on a scale of 0-6. The total score of the GMAT exam is composed of all of the GMAT questions that were answered on each section. The exam is designed so that most students score somewhere between 400 and 600. Most universities do not require a minimum score for admissions, however, they will often let prospective students know the median score of applicants. Students who wish to gain admissions to a top business school will need to answer a great portion of the GMAT questions correctly since students of these schools often receive scores upwards of 700 on the exam.
