What does it mean when application status is inactive and no longer accepting jobs submission?

I recently spoke with Human Resources about this and the explanation was that the job has expired from the website, but that the manager has the applications and "hopefully" is reviewing the applications.

∙ 11y agoThis means that the position you've seen advertised is no longer on offer. It may be that the employer, after receiving a broad list of applicants, has already made their selection. Or it's possible that the position has been filled from within the company. Or it could possibly mean that the position, although advertised, has had to be withdrawn for business reasons. This could be that a specific contract fell through, or the company was unable to find the necessary funding to cover the cost of the new position, or even the company changed their mind, feeling that current staff can fulfil the role without the need for additional hiring.
