An orange fruit that was offered in ancient times (Samaria), and if accepted represented a willingness to give ones soul to the keeper (Lord of darkness). This was marked by incessant offerings (sometimes over many years) usually by a witch serving the the ancient deity. Under no circumstance were you to accept the orange or your soul would be forfeit. This of course is just Samarian lore and might mean other things in different cultures.
