The records I have for the Colt AR 15 Sporter stop at 1975 with the starting number SP83400, so my guess would be a year or two after 1975.
If you are asking about the location of the serial number of the Colt commando revolver, it can be found by opening the cylinder and looking at the crane or frame at the swivel. It would be in two places back to back.
