This song means different things to different people. The interpretation that I like the most is as follows -

This person has ADD and feels like an outcast. People treat that person differently and they feel alone. They feel like a "different breed" as the lead singer says. The song is sung with bitterness and remorse in his voice so he is mad at the world for treating him this way. Sometimes he wishes that he could just "Sail" away.

Boats lots and lots of boats. Like more boats than you can imagine. Maybe aliens on boats and kill himself cause he needs more boats. His ADD makes him get more boats his also makes him get even more boats. There are just so many boats he eventually sells some of his boats to compensate for all the money he spent on said boats. As his children get older he gives some of his boats to them so they can have a boat. IN SUMMARY:Only buy one boat.
