It depends on the use. i.e. the TV show The Wonder Years had an episode about a used car. During the closing credits, they played "Long May You Run" while the car was pictured. When the rerun came a few months later, there was no song at all during the closing credits. You would not need permission for personal use.
Closing song on Hung (ep. 6) is "Change Is" by Ryan Bingham.
The end credits of Southcliffe episode 2 feature the song "The Night We Met" by Lord Huron. This haunting track complements the episode's themes and emotional weight, enhancing the overall atmosphere as the credits roll. The choice of music adds to the poignant and reflective tone of the series.
According to TV.com: "The closing credits were freeze frames from the episode, with the song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now" playing behind them, aping the closing credits sequence of the TV show Perfect Strangers."
