The first date is believed to be the day of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independece, which said that English laws no longer effect Mecklenburg County. The second date is that of the Halifax Resolves. This document authorized delegates to continential congress to vote for independence. These dates are signifigant because North Carolina declares its independence before the July 4th, 1776 declatation.
