Non-renewable means it doesn't renew itself after it's been used.

Non-renewable: Coal, for example is a non-renewable resource. If we burn it to generate electricity it's gone. We have to dig up some more to keep the power station going. Eventually there will be no more coal left.

Renewable: Solar power is a renewable resource because we can use it all day to generate electricity (with photovoltaic panels), and it still is there tomorrow to be used again.
