It is a type of disease, i think it is something to do with the gum. Definition of periodontal: Refers to the hard and soft tissue, or supporting structures, around the teeth. "Periodontal disease" is a disease of the gum tissues and other tissues around the teeth. "Periodontal" itself is not a disease, it is the gums and other tissues around the teeth.
